The green line to Cordova

Memphis, TN
February 27, 2011

My journey started in downtown Memphis shortly after noon. As I left the Claridge House the weather outside was beautiful; 52°F, clear, and sunny. I began by heading north on Main St and then made my first turn towards the east on to A.W.Willis Ave. After about a mile this street turned into North Parkway and took me the rest of the way to midtown. At Watkins I cut over to the V&E Greenline and headed towards my first stop.

After collecting some stashed rations I was headed east on the V&E Greenline again. I followed it to the end at Springdale and then went south through Hein Park towards Sam Cooper Blvd. I ran one mile east along Sam Cooper then turned south on Tillman to reach the Shelby Farms Greenline. This was my favorite part of the run with over eight miles of paved paths leading to my second stop at the Shelby Farms visitors center.

Leaving the visitors center I headed east around patriot lake to the Tour de Wolf Trail. This multi-use mountain bike trail provided some interesting changes in terrain as I headed toward Germantown Parkway. I followed twists and turns until the path went south; my goal was to the east so I left the trail. After a short stretch of shiggy I found a service road and Germantown Parkway. I was glad to be out of the woods, but I was close to Walnut Grove and needed to run three more miles to reach Dexter and my final stop.

Off to a running start

Walt Disney World
January 9, 2011

Just before 5AM, it was 50°F and still dark outside as I began the 2011 Disney World Half Marathon. The race was a lot of fun! There was a huge traffic jam getting into the parking area but I managed to make to my starting corral with the help of my local cousin. (Thanks, Katie!) Former Memphis runners Patrick and Pam also started in corral B and were chasing me for the entire run. (though none of us realized it until after the race was over.) Along the course we saw costumed characters every mile; cheering the runners on and offering photo ops. If you have google earth installed you can explore the route below. Click and drag your mouse to move the view. Zoom in and click on individual way points to see time and speed details.
